Having to be introduced as Pepper Potts opposite Robert Downey Jr.s Tony Stark in the first Iron Man movie in 2008, Gwyneth Paltrow as announcing her retirement from the Marvel’s Universe after the Avengers 4: Endgame movie release. You can see her in her character in Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming, The Evengers, Avengers: Infinity War.
After Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) snapped his fingers and made half of life in the universe disappear, we’re left with the original six of the Avengers team to deal with the aftermath. We don’t really know much about the actual movie plot but the concept of time-travelling and the Quantum Realm isn’t too far fetch as we gather all evidence from various Marvel movies (such as the Ant-Man stuck in the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp). With lesser characters to clog up the movie screens, Paltrow is excited to see her character Pepper Pots suit up with her own Iron Man armor to save her man. Unfortunately this will be our last time seeing her in action as Pepper.
Talking with Variety, Paltrow talks about her future in the MCU. She has been with the MCU crew since the dawn of the Superhero franchise, her plans to retire after Avengers: Endgame is cement but if Marvel Studios were to call her back for future appearances, she’d pry away from cement for another thrill with the gang.
“I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point. I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friend with [Iron Man director] Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first Iron Man and then to watch how important it has become to fans.”
“I feel honored to be a part of something that people are so passionate about. Of course, if they said, ‘Can you come back for a day?,’ I will always be there if they need me.”
Based on the MCU timeline so far, it would seem that Paltrow will have her final appearance in Endgame, although her contract with Marvel Studios isn’t revealed to the public we know that she’ll appear in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Even a trailer is released with her starring beside Happy Hogan (Favreau) as she hand over a donation check signed by her in the trailer.
If Pepper Pots is leaving the MCU, what does the fate of the avengers lie in the Endgame movie? Many fans are convince that we’ll see Tony Stark for the last time in Endgame as a showdown with Thanos will result in his demise, maybe temporarily or permanently. If Tony were to sacrifice himself for the Universe it would only mean that Pepper will live on with Tony’s child, something we saw them discussing in the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. Even if both of them get sacrificed for the greater good in Endgame it would make the best cap-off for their brilliant 10-year run in the MCU universe.
